Clifton Courtyard, BRISTOL
The client – a busy property developer - wanted a contemporary garden to connect a new coach house/ garage to his Georgian terraced property. To slow the journey through the garden, the route passes through a series of ‘rooms’, separated by walls of pleached hornbeams. All of the spaces are connected by a still, reflective pool of water, which brings light and movement to the north facing end of the garden and helps to visually widen the space. A multistem Prunus serrula, with its burnished copper stems, forms a living sculpture in the island bed.
This garden won the Society of Garden Designers People’s Choice Award in 2017.
